As a thirty + year practitioner and a 12 year instructor of yoga, I really wanted to love this book. Frankly, I don't know how it's received so many wonderful reviews. It's not terrible. And note, I only have Volume 1, but not motivated to get vol. 2. I have several anatomy books and was excited to have one specific to the muscles used during yoga. This one leaves huge gaps in focusing only on the primary muscles. I want it all. Yoga is a total body practice and I need the nitty gritty details. This book doesn't have them.

This is a MUST for any yoga instructor before, during and after yoga teacher training. I still refer to this book when I have questions about which muscles are working what in a particular pose and relay this information to my class.

I lead yoga teacher trainings, and the illustrations in this book are phenomenal.

This book is fantastic! Have both Vol I & II, and they are invaluable for anyone wanting to learn about yoga, being healthier, or any nursing or med, or physical therapy student.The book shows which muscles are involved in each yoga move - the ones working, being stretched, or supporting the body weight. For anyone in medicine, this also breaks down movements into steps and illustrates why the patient is in pain with that movement. For anyone in physical therapy, is illustrates why you need to do that excerise & shows how it will help you.As a student in a yoga teacher training class, this helps me learn how to do the poses correctly and which muscles are working with each pose and how to avoid stressing injuried body parts. Fantastic reading and a great resource!

This book is absolutely phenomenal!! If you are beginning a Yoga practice or looking to further your understanding of body mechanics, this book is for you.I’ve been practicing Yoga for decades and I am currently in a teacher training program. I highly recommend this book. The illustrations and explanations are easy to understand, yet scientifically exact.

This is one of the best gross muscular anatomy books I have found. The illustrations are excellent, the text clear. In particular, if you are a yoga practitioner, it will expose for you the muscles that are in tension, and those that should be in relaxation, in various poses. It is also valuable if you are curious about drawing the human figure.It may be that the book is for physical or massage therapists, or yoga teachers, but it's useful even for curious amateurs such as myself. It sits on our coffee table, I leaf through it every so often. Had I more time, I would work through the names and eventually memorize what moves this bag of skin and bones (and, of course, organs, nails, teeth and emotion). Even without, a hasty review can be helpful, as what's noticed remains in memory for at least a 90-minute yoga session.

If you are on the fence about buy this, DO IT. The illustrations are stunning. I have a hard time picking up anatomy terms, but this book is wonderful because it caters to all different learning styles. I love being able to see the muscles and joints up close when I am studying their importance. That is what helps me learn.

I think I might have preferred the other book, "Key Poses of Yoga", but I am totally satisfied.The book shows each muscle in the body separately, and believe me -there are more than you thought! The illustrations (computer generated) are very helpful and mind-opening.This book takes anatomy seriously and is a valuable reference book.

About the Author
Jennifer Dawson grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from DePaul University with a degree in psychology. She met her husband at the public library while they were studying. But will that be enough to be reunited again?“Sure, we were safe. Safe in the arms of hell.”I don’t have a lot to say about this book because I just can’t. This book left me speechless. It was so fascinating how Ruta Sepetys wrote a tragic story to let us know the truth about the crimes of Stalin. I don’t even know how those people survived such terrible things, but as Ruta said, they had love and they survived through love. Not just love in a romantic way, it was love for a lot of things, especially their families.I was hooked with the story since the first chapter. Ruta’s writing is beautiful, and even though this isn’t a love story (for me), it was beautiful in its own way. I liked how those people did almost the impossible to survive, to feed their children, to find their lost ones. There was sorrow, pain, suffering, loss, love but most important, there was hope. Every single death touched my heart, and when I read this book I had to hold my tears because if I started crying, I wouldn’t stop.“Evil will rule until good men or women choose to act.”As soon as I finished this I didn’t know what to do. You know, after reading such a tragic story is very hard to forget about it, to just pretend you didn’t read that ugly side of history… of humanity. History teachers should give this book to their students because I think is extremely important to know this side of the story… to know the truth. I know this is a story of fictional characters, but what makes it important is that this story reflects the true story that took the lives of 20 millions of innocent people, and that’s a LOT of people. I’m pretty sure most of us didn’t know this side of the story, and also we think our history classes failed us, but know you can educate yourself thanks to Ruta Sepetys.I don’t encourage people to read this book because it is pretty or happy, because it isn’t. I encourage people because this story is important. It’s not always easy to write such a serious topic for young adults but I think Ruta did it and captured it perfectly.

I'm writing this review with a heavy heart, this book was hard for me to get through. Not because it was bad by any means it was one of the most beautiful books I've read in along time. It was hard for me because of how heart breaking and devastating it was. I went from hope to sadness to anger constantly throughout my time reading this book. At one point in time I had to put it down because of how broken and devastated I was for Lina, her family and the thousands of people who lost their lives or lost someone during this ugly time period. I still cannot believe that these events actually happened. I cannot believe that people were forced to endure these conditions because they were helping their families or teaching or just living their normal lives. It's sick that they were treated this way. I want to sob for these people I want to hug these people, I want to mourn for these people. I just want to continue reading books like these so that their stories don't die with them. I'm so sorry that they had to live these events. I admire their bravery, I admire their will to go on because I know for a fact that not everyone could have done that. It's incredible. I'm so glad I got to experience this book. Well done Ruta Sepetys. Thank you for taking the time to give these people voices and for finally allowing them to have their stories told the way it was supposed to.

This is a story about sacrifice, perseverance, survival, courage and hope.During World War II, many Lithuanians lost their precious families and were forced to abandon their beloved homes. Their stories were told as they were seen, experienced and recorded by a fifteen year old Lithuanian girl, Lina. Lina's youth and homeland were stolen from her by Stalin's reign of terror.Along with countless other Lithuanians, Lina and her family were abruptly removed from their beautiful and peaceful homes and sent on a harrowing and dehumanizing trip with the final destination being a Siberian prison camp. This book beautifully told the stories of some of the survivors and victims.Lina, Jonas and Andrius cared for each other, protected one another and managed to scrape up little joys and small reasons to smile and hope. These actions and traits allowed them to persevere and survive.The characters, both main and supportive, were multi dimensional and well developed.Between Shades Of Gray is another story which needed to be told, experienced and remembered.

“My art teacher had said that if you breathed deeply and imagined something, you could be there. You could see it, feel it. During our standoffs with the NKVD, I learned to do that. I clung to my rusted dreams during the times of silence. It was at gunpoint that I fell into every hope and allowed myself to wish from the deepest part of my heart. Komorov thought he was torturing us, but we were escaping into a stillness within ourselves. We found strength there.”I kept pausing when I’d find myself thinking of my friend Kelli’s words while reading “Beneath Shades of Gray:” “My heart is broken.” And break my heart this quiet little story did. Words, other than Kelli’s, fail me. Having had a friend whose grandfather lived through this period, this place and time, I still had no real idea of what atrocities were committed, endured. I tried to go back to reading something else this morning and closed that book. I can’t bring myself to take those other words in just yet. While this is a fictional account, the atrocities were real.It will, hopefully, take me some time before I find myself getting upset over my charger for my laptop shooting sparks enough so my laptop remained uncharged for the last several days. As it was, I managed to get a new charger ordered with a few clicks on my phone and problem solved. Truly, there are much worse things in life than we even want to think about. Or, to borrow thoughts from Kelli again, “lucky, lucky, lucky.”
